We are a group of believers in Jesus Christ, in the area of Ellwangen and Aalen. And, although we have taken very different routes through Christian communities, we have a common passion: Jesus Christ and the Gospel in Scriptures, and of course in our hearts and in our real life. In retrospect, it is almost a bit uncanny how God made sure that our paths would cross.
Why We Do What We Do …
‚Jesus, we know him, the gospel, that is well known. What more is there to understand? Shouldn´t we focus on the good Christian life, mission and the like?´
Statements like these increase around Bible believing churches, and this worries us! In our experiencce even in churches that carry Jesus‘ names or other Christian terms in their own fellowship title, considerably little emphasis is put on the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Often this seems to be due to Christ not being intentionally taught aside of a set of standard verses (John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-10, Romans 3:23, John 14:6, etc.). Thus it does not come as a surprise that the picture and value of Jesus in Christians´ minds is rather lean, and that the overall direction the Lord´s Church is taking is worrysome. Seeing this, we cannot accept this before the Lord, and so we pray and wrestle with these issues in our ministry of presenting and proclaiming Jesus Christ … among non-Christians, but especially among Christians!
An important guidepost for us is 2 Tim 4:2-5:
2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. 5 As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.2 Timothy 4:2-5 (ESV)
The church itself needs evangelism, deepening the understanding of Jesus Christ and the Gospel.
What We Affirm and Confess…
We are committed to the principle of the Inerrancy and Infallability of Scripture, the Word of God or the Bible, that is, the Old and New Testaments, especially the autographs. We are committed to the Inspiration of Scripture, that is, God has sovereignly guided what is contained in the texts of the Bible, and what is not. We profess that Scripture is necessary and sufficient in scope and depth to show us the way to God’s revelation in His Son, Jesus Christ. We commit to the interpretation of Scripture unto God’s intention, work and goals, and to the principle of Scripture interpretation by the Scriptures themselves.
We confess that forgiveness of sin and guilt is necessary for every human being before His Creator God (who is also Jesus Christ). We also confess that the Word of God reveals only one(!) Salvation, through the work of God Himself, through Jesus Christ´s Life, Death, and Resurrection. We confess that, through God’s grace, a person can acknowledge this reality and through faith in Jesus Christ can have the necessary peace with God and through this eternal life. We also confess that God will remain holy and loving, even though He would or will not save all or even a few people from His righteous wrath.
What We Refrain From…
We desire – as the Lord may give it – to reject any teaching that does not correspond to God’s Intention in Scripture. Therefore, we respectfully refrain from traditions and creeds which – intentionally or not – are placed as an authority above Scripture interpretation, when obstructing a piecemeal but ever-advancing understanding of God and His Son Jesus Christ.
